Stenting is a catheter-based procedure in which a stent (a small, expandable wire mesh tube) is inserted into a diseased artery to hold it open. Currently, stenting is performed most often in conjunction with other catheter-based procedures, such as balloon angioplasty or atherectomy.
- Do not smoke for 24 hours before the procedure.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the test.
- Consult with us regarding which medicines to continue to take the evening before the test.
- If you are diabetic, have renal insufficiency, or a potential iodine dye allergy, please notify this office at (940) 312-6262.
Let the staff know immediately if you experience any symptoms during the procedure such as:
- Dizziness
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea
- Back pain
- Chest discomfort
Let the staff know immediately if you experience any symptoms after the procedure such as:
- Redness or swelling
- Bleeding or wetness at the cath site
- Pain or numbness
- A knot at the site larger than a small marble
- Fever or chills
If the stenting is performed in combination with balloon angioplasty, it will take approximately forty five minutes to one and a half hours to complete. Please plan to spend the night in the hospital post procedure if an intervention is performed.
