Laser lead extraction is an invasive procedure used to remove device (pacer/ICD) leads that are malfunctioning or no longer needed.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the procedure
  • Take your morning pills with sips of water only
  • Do not take any diabetic medication the morning of your procedure
An intravenous catheter (IV) will be started for fluids and medications. The incision line of your current pacemaker is opened and a small tubular catheter will be placed over the lead. Laser energy is applied to the lead tip and allows the lead to be removed.
The procedure will take approximately one hour to complete.
